Girls Tennis Defeats Upland, Advance to Quarterfinals
Girls Tennis is off to the CIF Division 4 Quarterfinals after defeating Webb and Upland High School in the first two rounds. The Tritons who finished league play 6-4, earned a spot in the Division 4 Playoffs, continuing their post-season streak, now having advanced every year since the program was founded back in 2021. The Orange and Navy were on the road in the first round as they traveled back to Claremont to take on Webb, a league opponent whom they had previously lost twice during league play. But the Tritons got a different result this time, as they left Claremont, beating the Gauls 12-6.
The Orange and Navy hosted Upland who had previously beat Hesperia in the first round. The Tritons beat Upland by a final score of 13-5, winning seven doubles matches and six singles. Doubles partners Ella Evans and Charlie Rogers won all three sets as the number one doubles pair. Junior Kamryn Giunta swept her singles opponent 6-0 in every set. Junior London Willhoit won two out of three of her matches, including a huge comeback in the first set. Senior Lila Gesuale, also had a comeback in the first set and ended up winning two out of her three matches. Ali and Ava Hudy were solid in their doubles matches winning two of them including a huge comeback in the first set, winning 7-5 in a tiebreaker.
The Tritons will now host Culver City on Monday, November 11 at the OC Great Park at 2:00 pm. They will play on courts 20-25 and a map of the park can be found here. Culver City has been dominant in the first two rounds, beating Chino Hills 15-3 and South Hills 17-1. The winner on Monday will play the winner of Mark Keppel and Louisville on Wednesday, November 13th.
