Girl's Soccer Win Group Play in Best of the West Showcase

Pacifica Christian Girls Soccer is off to a solid start in the Best of the West Soccer Showcase, which took place this past Saturday, December 10, and will continue next Saturday, December 17. The Lady Tritons, currently ranked #4 in the latest CIF-SS Division 5 Girls Soccer Polls, opened group play with a 1-1 draw against Schurr High School, a top 5 team in their own respective division. They then took on St. Anthony's High School out of Long Beach, defeating the Saints 6-0 to win the group and advance to the Semi-Finals next weekend.

Freshman stand-out Lana Stewart led the Tritons on goals, scoring four goals in two games to bring her total to 19 goals in the season. The Tritons were down four starters going into the weekend, as well as dealing with a handful of injuries that had some players limited on playing time. The Orange and Navy was anchored in midfield by the exceptional play of Juniors Bella Phelps, Maggie Contreras, and Captain Chloe Nguyen, who were a consistent threat on both sides of the ball. It was the lower classmen who came up big for the Tritons this weekend. Six lower classmen saw significant minutes this weekend to contribute to the Lady Tritons' success.

"This weekend was a team effort," remarked Head Coach Brandon Gonzalez. "We were down four starters, three of them upperclassmen, so we really relied on our freshmen and sophomores to step up, and they did, so proud of their hard work this weekend."

The Lady Tritons improve to 7-1-2 after the weekend. They face CIF LA City Section Division 1 San Pedro High School next Saturday in the Best in the West Showcase Semi-Finals. The squad has their first League match-up of the year on Thursday, December 15, when they travel to take on Fairmont Prep at OC Great Park, Field 13, kick off is 2:45 pm.
