Villagrana Reaches 1,000 as Pacifica Christian Edges Chaparral 42–40
The Pacifica Christian girls basketball team earned a hard-fought victory over Chaparral High School, edging the Pumas 42–40 in a tightly contested matchup at Pacifica Christian's annual Silent Night basketball game. This would be a rematch, as these two teams faced each other last season in the CIF-SS Round of 16 where the Pumas defeated the Tritons 40-36 in Temecula. Friday was a different result, as the Tritons set the tone early and maintained their composure down the stretch, making key defensive stops to secure the win in the closing minutes.
The game carried extra significance as senior Vivian Villagrana reached a major career milestone, surpassing 1,000 total points. Villagrana, who has been a consistent offensive presence throughout her career, scored 145 points as a freshman, 235 as a sophomore, and erupted for 461 during her junior season. With her performance against Chaparral, she officially joined the 1,000-point club, becoming just the second Triton in program history to accomplish the feat, following Lauryn Ham in 2023.
Villagrana led the Tritons with 19 points, while freshman Alison Cliff added eight points, Rachel Ham finished with seven, and KK Burrus chipped in with six. Chaparral made a strong push coming out of halftime, going on a run to open the third quarter and holding Pacifica Christian to just six points in the third. Despite the momentum swing, the Tritons stayed composed and found contributions from multiple players to keep the game within reach.
The victory not only adds another important result to the Tritons' season but also marks a historic night for the program, as Villagrana's achievement highlights the continued growth and success of Pacifica Christian girls basketball. The Orange and Navy will now turn their attention to the Tarkanian Classic, starting on Friday December 19th.
