Pacifica Christian Girls Basketball defeated Rolling Hills Prep 55-46 in the first round of the CIF-SS Divison 2A Playoffs last night! Entering the game, the Tritons were 20-8 finishing third in the San Joaquin League and the Huskies were 17-9 finishing first in the Coastal League.  This was the sixth time the Orange and Navy had secured a spot in the postseason. 

This was a back-and-forth game the entire time, with neither team having much of a lead. The Tritons started hot with back-to-back threes by Lauryn Ham and Alexia Valencia who put the Orange and Navy on the board early. At the end of the first quarter, the Tritons trailed 15-18 but after knocking down 18 points in the second quarter, the Orange and Navy had a 33-29 lead against the Huskies at halftime. The Tritons pulled away in the second half, outscoring Rolling Hills 22 to 17, not allowing the Huskies to gain much momentum on offense, ultimately securing the 55-46 victory. Senior Alexia Valencia had 15 points and Lauryn Ham had an additional 10 points. Junior Caylie Villagrana had seven points while Sophomore Angi Martinez was solid on defense with three blocks. 

"The girls played with a sense of urgency all night long and our defense was outstanding all night, especially in the fourth quarter," said Head Coach Pablo Martinez  "Both of our seniors, Lauryn and Alexia did a phenomenal job leading this young team."

In the final CIF-SS Division 2A Polls, the Cowboys finished ranked eighth and the Tritons finished ninth. Chino defeated Corona del Mar 61-18 in the first round and finished the year with an impressive 20-3 record. Leading the Cowboys is freshman Tess Oldenburg who averages 17.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Senior Lyndsey Valverde averages 4.9 assists and 5.2 steals per game for the Cowboys. 

The Tritons will host Chino High School on Saturday, February 9th with a 6:00 pm tip-off.
