On Tuesday, November 21, Pacifica Christian hosted its first Girls Basketball Showcase right here in Newport Beach. The Pacifica Christian Girls Basketball Showcase, presented by Markwith Insurance, a State Farm Agent was held in the Triton Event Center, with four premier games, and eight teams representing the Central, San Diego, and Southern Section. The Tritons welcomed St. Margarets, Santa Fe Christian, Bishop Amat, Bakersfield Christian, Los Alamitos, Orangewood Academy, and Mater Dei Catholic out of San Diego to be part of this special event.

The highlight of the evening was the 5:30 pm game where the Tritons took on the Los Alamitos Griffins which proved to be a very even matchup between the two teams. The Orange and Navy entered the evening with a 3-0 record on the season and battled the entire game, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to beat the Griffins 44-37. The two teams continued to exchange points the whole game, but Los Alamitos kept a slight lead at the end of the first three quarters. But by the end of the third quarter, the momentum had shifted and the Tritons were only down by four entering the fourth quarter of play. Caylie Villagrana was the force that got the team going in the fourth quarter, as she had a team-high 17 points, five threes, three of them coming in the fourth quarter alone. Seniors Alexia Valencia and Lauryn Ham both had 11 points and were the leaders out on the court, including a key layup made by Ham late in the fourth to secure the lead for the Tritons. When asked about the victory, Head Coach Pablo Martinez remarked, "Our team played great defense in the second half which kept us in the game. We took control of the game and this allowed our girls to hit timely threes to take and maintain the lead late in the fourth quarter. Super proud of them and their determination to not give up."

The Orange and Navy will take on Aliso Niguel High School at 6:00 pm in the El Toro Tournament on Friday November 24th.
