Lauryn Ham Reaches 1,000 Points, Tritons are 8-0
The Pacifica Christian Girls Basketball team is undefeated after eight games in their 2023-2024 season. Second-year Head Coach Pablo Martinez said "It is an unreal feeling for us to be 8-0 this is far into the season, but it shows that this group is committed to each other and being the best they can be on and off the court. This team rallies around each other and they have proved they are a competitive and solid group this season." The Tritons, currently ranked #19 in the County by the OC Register, have been unstoppable this year, beating Edison, Northwood, Los Alamitos, Calvary Chapel, and St. Margarets to name a few.
After wins against Millikan and Edison, the Orange and Navy entered the El Toro Tournament, beating Northwood 62-44 in the first game. In the second game of the tournament, the Tritons took on Los Alamitos and came from behind late in the fourth quarter to defeat the Griffins 44-37. Junior Caylie Villagrana led the Tritons in points that night as she had 17. Of those 17, she had five three-pointers, three of those coming late in the fourth quarter. A few days later, the team beat Aliso Niguel 56-25 to earn themselves a spot in the finals. The Orange and Navy took on Calvary Chapel in the Championship Game, defeating the Eagles 78-72 in an overtime thriller. Senior Alexia Valencia was the standout player on the court that night as she had a double-double with 29 points and 10 rebounds and was named tournament MVP. Alexia currently leads the team in points, assists, rebounds, and steals per game.
Amongst the success of the team, Senior Lauryn Ham has reached a huge milestone in her high school career. In the game against La Quinta on Wednesday evening, Lauryn reached 1,000 career points scored after hitting her second three-pointer of the night. Entering her senior year, Lauryn had scored 909 points. In her junior year alone, Lauryn scored 458 points and had 101 three-pointers. Ham has played in 75 games, including two CIF-SS Finals during her four years at Pacifica Christian and has over 2,000 minutes of playing time. Lauryn is the first Girls' Basketball player in program history to reach 1,000 career points scored! "It is truly an honor to be part of a great accomplishment," remarked Coach Pablo "Getting to 1,000 is not easy and I am super happy and proud for Lauryn."
