Pacifica Christian High School Athletics

Cross Country and Girl's Tennis Advance Further in Postseason

It has been an exciting past five days for the Pacifica Christian Athletic Department. This past Saturday, the Girl's Varsity Volleyball team punched their ticket to the CIF-SS Division 7 final, continuing to add to what has already been a historical fall for the Triton Athletic Department. A few days later, Boy's and Girl's Cross Country raced in the San Joaquin League Finals at Irvine Regional Park, qualifying for the CIF-SS Prelims. Meanwhile, Girl's Tennis traveled to Santa Ana, defeating Century High School 15-3 in the first round of the Division 4 Girl's Tennis playoffs.

"It has been a historic fall season for the Pacifica Christian Athletic Department," stated Director of Athletics & Student Life Brandon Gonzalez. "All of our Fall Programs have found more success this year than any other year in school history, both in competition and in the overall student-athlete experience."

Cross Country
Boy's and Girl's Cross Country kicked off the day, with both programs finishing in the Top 5 of League Finals, qualifying both teams for the CIF-SS Prelims on November 11 at Mt. Sac Community College in Walnut, CA. This is the sixth consecutive post-season appearance for the Boy's team and only the second time in school history for the Girl's team. Seniors Mitch Bahnsen and Ian Cross both earned 1st Team All-League Honors, while five additional Tritons earned 2nd Team All-League Honors. On the Girl's side, Sophomores Ashley Gundlach and Akyli Maze both earned 1st Team All-League Honors, while Sophomore Katie Fischer earned 2nd Team All-League Honors.

Girl's Tennis
Girl's Tennis, playing in their third consecutive CIF-SS post-season appearance as they took on the Centurions of Century High School, winning 15-3. Led by San Joaquin League Doubles Champions Bree Clarke and Kiana Giunta, the Orange and Navy jumped out to a 12-0 lead after the first two rounds. All Pacifica Christian's singles won on the day, and not a single starter in the first two rounds lost a match. The highlight for the day was Freshmen doubles players Charlie Rogers and Kamryn Giunta coming back to defeat Century's number one doubles team 6-4, after being down 1-4 after 5 games. The Tritons were no strangers to Century High School. The two schools played each other once before in post-season play, back during the COVID-19 year when Girl's Tennis was played in the Spring of 2021. The squad previously defeated Century 13-5.

"Big win for Charlie and Kamryn," remarked Assistant Coach Ben Roberson. "Beating their #1, after being down 1-4, such a great growing moment for them!"

Both Cross Country teams will race on Friday, November 11 at Mt. Sac Community College in the CIF-SS Prelims.
Girl's Tennis will host Upland High School on Friday, November 4 in the second round of CIF-SS Division 4 Playoffs.
