Boys Volleyball Battles Back, Defeats Fairmont Prep in Five

The Pacifica Christian Boys Volleyball Team picked up a huge win Tuesday night against the visiting Fairmont Prep Huskies. The Tritons are now 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the San Joaquin League. Led by first-year Head Coach Evan Fredericks, the squad picked up their first league win last Thursday against Capistrano Valley Christian where the Tritons beat the Eagles 3-1 at home. On Tuesday evening after falling 2-0 early in the game, the Tritons battled back to beat the Huskies 3-2 giving them their second league win.

The Orange and Navy were tested Tuesday evening when the Huskies pulled away in both the first and second set leaving the Tritons down 2-0 early on in the game. The first set was back and forth, with neither team taking a huge lead the entire time but the Huskies eventually took the first set 20-25. The Tritons came out slow in the second set as Fairmont Prep took an early 1-8 lead which unfortunately was too large of a lead for the Tritons to overcome as they fell 15-25. As the night seemed to be fairing towards the Huskies, the Tritons did not give in as they would go on to win the following three sets, taking the game 3-2.

In a nail-biter third set, the Orange and Navy battled and pulled away with a 26-24 win, increasing their momentum in the game. The squad carried that momentum into the next set as they took the lead 24-21 forcing Fairmont Prep to call a timeout.  Off a kill from Senior Christian Hahne, the Tritons would eventually take the fourth set by a final score of 25-23. With the game tied at two sets apiece, the Tritons once again battled back as they went down early in the fifth set 4-7. A series of serves from Senior Matthew MacPherson proved to be too strong for the Huskies as he brought the team right back in it as the Tritons stumped the Huskies' offense and took a 9-7 lead. Sophomore Hudson Reynolds had the game-winning kill as the Tritons went on to win the fifth set 15-13.

The Orange and Navy will be on the road Thursday, March 16th at Liberty Christian for a non-league match-up. The first serve is set for 5:00 pm.
