Streiff's Late Goal Gives Tritons 2-1 Victory

In the second home game and first league game of the season, Pacifica Christian Boys Soccer came from behind in the final minutes of the game to beat San Gabriel Academy 2-1. Freshman Dylan Streiff's late goal in the final seconds of the game gave the Orange and Navy their first league win of the season.

This was the first time these two teams had met. Entering into the game the San Gabriel Academy Eagles were 3-0, and the Tritons were 0-2 after two tough nonleague losses earlier in the season. After a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles got a late goal in the final seconds off a corner kick to give them a 1-0 lead headed into the half. It wasn't until the 70-minute mark that the Orange and Navy got on the scoreboard. Midfielder Dylan Streiff drew a foul in the box which Abraham Abbasi stepped up and converted, tying the game with only 10 minutes remaining. But the Tritons were not done, as in the final seconds of the game Shaun Sandhu laid a pass off to Streiff who beat the defender and knocked it in the back of the net giving the Tritons the 2-1 victory. Streiff now has two goals in three games and has been a pivotal piece in the team's offense. Aiden Lynch and Abraham Abbasi controlled the midfield for the Tritons and Dalton Bateau was solid on defense for the team, to keep the shutout in the second half.

When asked about the win, Head Coach Johnny Marmelstein said "The boys came out with a renewed resolve to chase the game. Freshman Dylan Streiff cranked us back into the match drawing the penalty, then scoring the game-winner with no time left on the clock. It was a great win for our team."

The Orange and Navy delivered the Eagles their first loss of the season while the Tritons improved to 1-2, 1-0 in Academy League play. The team will take on Calvary Chapel Santa Ana on Friday, December 1st in a nonleague matchup. Game will be held at the OC Great Park starting at 3:00.
