Charles Thurston Advances to CIF Finals After Two Hole Playoff

Tuesday morning, three Tritons traveled up to Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills to compete in the CIF Individual Prelims. Charles Thurston, Eston Kallins, and Matthew Hull all represented the Tritons very well and were amongst the few schools to have three or more in the field. In a field of 111 players only 20 advanced to the CIF Individual Finals which are held next Thursday, May 18 at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard. Luke Powell from Capistrano Valley Christian currently sits in first place after his round of 67.

Eston Kallins and Matthew Hull put up a 76 and a 77,  just a few strokes off the cut. Charles Thurston was even on the front and one under on the back shooting 73 overall. Thurston had two bogeys on holes 6 and 17 but balanced it out with birdies on holes 2, 10, and 14. After the scores were in, Charles was put into a playoff with eight other golfers who all shot 73, but only five would advance. The group went out and played hole 10 as Thurston's par kept him in the hunt. They then proceeded to hole 9 where a bogey clinched his spot in the CIF Individual Finals. Charles is the first golfer in program history to advance to the CIF Individual Finals.

"All three of the boys represented Pacifica Christian very well today," remarked Head Coach Jeff Anderson "Huge congrats to Chuckie for advancing onto the next round. Playing well in a playoff under that type of pressure is very hard to do and I was very impressed with how he handled himself and can't wait to watch him compete one last time as a Triton next week."
