Boys Golf Defeats CVCS, Sets New Program Record
History was made on Wednesday, March 20, as the Pacifica Christian Boys Golf Team defeated CVCS 200-269 in their eleventh match of the season. This was not only their eighth win during the 2023-2024 season, the Tritons set a new record by shooting 200 (+15), a first in Pacifica Christian history. Prior to this round, the program low was set last year, where the Orange and Navy shot 202 (+17) against Anaheim Discovery Christian. The Tritons had six golfers competing at Costa Mesa Country Club on Wednesday and took the lowest five scores, totaling 200.
Sophomore Matthew Hull led the Tritons, as he shot 37 (E) with birdies on the second and eighth hole. Hull has been the leader of the team this year, with five rounds under par and a combined five under through eleven rounds. Senior Eston Kallins was right behind him, shooting 38 (+1) with birdies on the sixth and eighth holes. Senior Ethan Shumlas came in third with a 41 while Asher Alexander and Will Watson both posted a 42.
"I am super proud of these boys and their performance yesterday." remarked Head Coach Tanner Motske "Breaking this record at only the halfway point in the season is very impressive. This group has been working really hard at practice, working on their scoring clubs as well as their course management which has paid off."
With the win on Wednesday, the Tritons improved to 8-3 on the year and are 2-0 in league play. This has been a solid year for the squad, as they continue to shoot consistently low scores and play smart golf. At the midway point in the season, the Orange and Navy have nine matches left, with their next match on Thursday, March 21 against Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Their next Academy League match is next Tuesday, March 26 against Fairmont SJC at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course.
