From Pacifica to the Sweet 16: Houston Mallette Making History at Alabama

When the lights of March Madness shine brightest, they tend to reveal more than just stars they uncover stories. This year, one of those stories belongs to Houston Mallette, a Pacifica Christian alumnus now playing a key role for the University of Alabama men's basketball team as it navigates the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

For Pacifica Christian High School, the NCAA Tournament has never felt closer to home. That changed tonight.

Former Pacifica Christian Triton standout Houston Mallette delivered a strong performance for the Alabama Crimson Tide, scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds to help Alabama punch its ticket to the Sweet 16. With the win, Mallette etched his name into Pacifica Christian history as the first player from the program to reach this stage of March Madness.

It's a milestone that reflects both individual growth and the rising impact of Pacifica's basketball program. Mallette's performance showcased the versatility that made him special in high schoolscoring when needed, battling on the glass, and contributing to winning basketball. While stars often grab headlines in March, it's players like Mallette who provide the balance and toughness that championship runs require.

Back in Southern California, pride is running high. Pacifica Christian head coach Jeff Berokoff didn't hold back when talking about his former player: "I love watching that kid. He is the epitome of an incredible teammate. He is tough, he is selfless, and he loves others. I am so excited to watch him in the Sweet 16, and I am so proud of him."

That sentiment speaks to more than just Mallette's stat line it highlights the character and leadership traits that have defined his journey.

From a developing program like Pacifica Christian to one of the biggest stages in college basketball, Mallette's path is a testament to persistence and team-first mentality. Now, with Alabama advancing and the spotlight growing brighter, he'll have an opportunity to continue making history, not just for himself, but for every future player coming out of Pacifica Christian with dreams of March glory.

And for one night at least, the road to the Sweet 16 ran straight through Pacifica.
