Bring the Rain 2023

Pacifica Christian's annual Bring the Rain Event was back this year on Friday, November 17th, and was a huge success! Bring the Rain, originally founded at John Brown University was brought to Pacifica Christian back in 2018 when the Tritons hosted Crean Lutheran in a packed-out Triton Event Center. Now entering its fifth year as a Triton Tradition, Bring the Rain has become a well-established and attended event in the community, with everyone in attendance eagerly awaiting to throw their toilet paper on the first good three-point shot by the Tritons.

This year both games were played at Orange Coast Community College in front of a packed house with over 900 pre-sold tickets and plenty of rolls of toilet paper in arms. The Girl's Basketball team took on the Chargers of Edison High School, beating them 42-25 while the Boy's Basketball Team faced off against cross-town rivals the St. Margarets Tartans, taking the victory with a final score of 57-25.

Starting off the evening, Girls Basketball had their second game of the season, after beating Millikan High School earlier this week. The Orange and Navy started off slow, only scoring two points in the first quarter, compared to the Charger's eight points. But the Tritons quickly turned things around, scoring 17 points in the second quarter, and taking the lead 19-10 going into halftime. The squad kept the momentum the rest of the night, outscoring the Chargers in both the third and fourth quarters, taking the victory by a final score of 42-25. Senior Alexia Valencia had 11 points and was a key piece in getting the Tritons back on track in the second quarter, with back-to-back layups. Junior Vivian Villagrana had a team-high of 13 points while her sister Caylie Villagrana had nine points. When asked about the game by the Pacifica Christian Athletics Prefect Taylor Zeulner, Head Coach Pablo Martinez remarked, "Everyone got in, got an opportunity to play in front of their crowd. Super proud of Vivian and Alexia who were leaders on the court tonight and were crucial in getting the team back in the game starting the second quarter."

In the second game of the night, Boy's Basketball had their 2023-2024 season opener against the St. Margarets Tartans. Entering into the game, the Tritons had beaten the Tartans in all five previous matchups and this game was no different. The squad rebounded well in the paint, making it difficult for the Tartans to gain any type of momentum. The Orange and Navy came out with energy as Junior EJ Spillman had the first basket of the night with a shifty layup. A few points later, Senior Vanguard University commit, Alex Stewart had the first good three-point shot of the night, bringing the rain onto the court. The squad did not take their foot off the gas all night, as they led 33-15 going into halftime. Sophomore AJ Johnson had a team-high 13 points, including a dunk in the second quarter assisted by Miles Harnish. Senior Alex Stewart had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Junior Logan Stewart had 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior EJ Spillman had nine points, 12 rebounds, and four assists and Junior Hudson Reynolds had eight points.  When asked about the game by the Pacifica Christian Athletics Prefect Taylor Zeulner, Coach Berokoff stated, "Bring the Rain is always an exciting game for everyone involved and this was another successful year. I am very excited for the upcoming season with this group and am thankful for the support of this community."
