Tritons Defeat Bishop Montgomery in Ryse Williams Classic
The Pacifica Christian Boys Basketball team had a solid win Thursday evening as they defeated Bishop Montgomery 55-40 in the Ryse Williams Classic. This was the second time these two teams have met, as the Knights beat the Tritons during the 2022-2023 season 56-54 in the Mission Prep Christmas Classic. This year was different as the Orange and Navy delivered the 5-0 Knights their first loss of the season and improved to 2-3 overall.
Entering into the night, the Orange and Navy were 1-3 with some tough losses against the number one team in the San Deigo Section, Carlsbad High School, and top 20 teams Crean Lutheran and St. Pius. The Tritons were looking to bounce back and gain some momentum heading into December and they did just that. The team was led by Senior Alex Stewart who had 16 points and nine rebounds. EJ Spillman had a solid night with eight points and seven rebounds while Sophomore Micheal Noel added another eight to the board. Spillman currently leads the team in points and assists as he now has 53 points and 29 assists in five games. The Tritons kept the lead at the end of each quarter, going into halftime up 25-14. They continued to be dominant, outscoring the Knights in three out of the four quarters.
"That was a really good win versus a well-coached team, and a great program." remarked Head Coach Jeff Berokoff "Our guys played great team defense, shared the ball, and played for one another, which was the recipe for success for us tonight"
The Tritons will take on Long Beach Jordon on Saturday, December 2nd at 1:30 back at Redondo Union High School. They will then start competition in the CDM Beach Bash next week, taking on cross-town rival Orange Lutheran on Monday, December 4th at 8:00 pm. The Orange and Navy beat Orange Lutheran twice last year, both by one point including the BSN Showcase and the CIF-SS Regional Finals.
