Boys Basketball Clinch League Title With Win Over CVCS
The Pacifica Christian Boys Basketball Team has officially clinched the San Joaquin League Title for the 2022-2023 Season! The Tritons beat Capistrano Valley Christian Wednesday night to end league play with a 7-1 record, making them League Champions. Since January 19, the squad went on a five-game winning streak, beating all league opponents including San Gabriel Academy, Orangewood Academy, Fairmont Prep, and Capistrano Valley Christian twice.
On Friday, January 27, the squad hosted longtime rival Fairmont Prep in Pacifica Christian's annual Wedge Week Game and dominated that night, beating them 63-45 and pushing them a step closer to the league title. Last night the Tritons continued their momentum and sealed the solo league champions title with the win over Capistrano Valley Christian. The Orange and Navy came out strong Wednesday night, as they led the Eagles 17-11 after the first quarter. The Tritons kept their lead for the next quarter, as Parker Strauss made a key layup right before halftime to give the squad a 32-23 lead. Entering the second half, the Eagles crawled their way back giving themselves their first and only lead of the night, making it 35-36. Going into the fourth quarter, the Tritons were up 41-38, but they slowly pulled away, taking control of the game, and outscoring the Eagles 15-7 in the fourth quarter. The Orange and Navy were led by Senior Parker Strauss who had 16 points, eight assists, and four steals. Senior Tanner Deal tallied 12 points while Junior Alex Stewart had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
This is the first time the Tritons have been solo league champions, dating back to the 2019-2020 season when they were Co-League Champions with Fairmont Prep. The squad finished out the year with an impressive 20-8 record on the season.
CIF-SS Brackets will be released on Sunday, February 5th at 12:00 pm and the Tritons will find out whom they host on Wednesday, February 8th.
