Boys Basketball Defeats Portola in First Round of CIF
The Pacifica Christian Boys Basketball team defeated the visiting Portola Bulldogs in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2A Playoffs with a final score of 64-52. The Tritons will now travel down to Dana Hills High School on Friday, February 10 to compete in the Round of 16.
After the first quarter, the Tritons were up 12-11 after Jeffry Bohlinger sunk two free throws to give the squad the lead before the end of the quarter. At the half, the Orange and Navy trailed 28-33, as Portola shot 88% from the FG and 100% from the three, scoring 22 points total in the second. The Tritons cut the lead in the third quarter down to 38-39, but the momentum switched in their favor in the fourth quarter, as the boys knocked down 26 points in the fourth compared to the Bulldog's 13 points to pull away with the win for a final score of 64-52.
The Tritons were led by sophomore EJ Spillman who had 16 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Seniors Tanner Deal, Parker Strauss, and Salim Semaan all added to the scoreboard. Deal had 14 points, Semaan had 12 points, and Strauss had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Dana Hills finished out their season 19-8 and went 6-3 in the Seaview League, solidifying the first-place title of their league. The Dolphins are led by sophomore Collin Haugh who currently averages 23.9 points and 4.4 assists per game.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm at Dana Hills High School on Friday, February 10th.
