Tritons Secure Win Against Talented Laguna Beach Breakers
The Pacifica Christian Tritons were triumphant over the Laguna Beach Breakers on Thursday with a dominate 7-4 win at home. The Tritons improve their record to 6-3 after winning the last two games in a row. Last season these two teams met with the Breakers beating the Tritons 9-1.
Laguna Beach got on the board in the top of the first inning after a double down the left field line, and a single down the right field line, scoring two. But the Tritons responded right back putting up three runs in the bottom of the first. Senior Johnny Coopman who recently committed to Azuza Pacific University tripled to right center field, scoring two runs followed by a single from Rowen Gale, scoring the third run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Orange and Navy took back the lead after Taisen Morishita doubled to center field. The Tritons would score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Coopman would double to center field, followed by a wild pitch.
Jon Stone got the start this afternoon, only giving up three hits over four innings. Stone struck out seven and walked only one batter. Junior Josiah Miller came in for relief in the fifth inning. Miller pitched three scoreless innings striking out two and walking none.
Pacifica Christian accumulated 10 hits in the game. Escobedo and Coopman were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits. Coopman drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day.
The Tritons will host Horizon Christian from Oregon on Monday March 23rd at OCC. First pitch at 3:30pm.
