Third-Inning Spurt Lead Pacifica Christian Tritons Past CVCS

The Pacifica Christian Tritons scored five runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat CVCS Eagles 9-2 at San Juan Sports Park Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time the Orange and Navy have beat the Eagles in program history. Johnny Coopman homered to left field, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, and Taisen Morishita laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run all in the fifth.

This was the second of three meetings between these two teams as previously back in March the Eagles beat the Tritons 5-4 in eight innings. With this win, both teams are tied for first in the San Joaquin League standings, making Thursday's upcoming matchup an important contest.

Coopman started on the mound for the Orange and Navy. The starter gave up four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. Pacifica Christian Tritons collected 11 hits in the game. Coopman drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Tritons with three runs batted in.  The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Coopman, Peterson, and Escobedo each collected two hits for the Tritons. The Orange and Navy were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

Pacifica Christian Tritons play at home on Thursday against Capistrano Valley Christian. First pitch at 3:30pm at Orange Coast College.
