Top Moments: Pacifica Christian Baseball

This summer the Pacifica Christian Athletic Department will be looking back at the 2020-2021 school year in search ofthe topmoments in athletics. Join us every Friday as we celebrate some of our teams' accomplishments this year and the awesome favor God has over Pacifica ChristianHigh School-Orange County.

Continuing on with another Top Moment in Pacifica Christian Athletics is the launching of the Baseball Program. In the Spring of 2022, Pacifica Christian will begin its inaugural season led by Head Coach Chris Gomez. As well as an accomplished coach, Chris comes to Pacifica with a lot of experience of the game on the field. Gomez attended Lakewood High School in Lakewood, California where he was a 4 year varsity athlete. In 1989, Chris was drafted by the Angeles in the amateur draft, but turned down the contract to play collegiate baseball at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Gomez later transferred to Long Beach State where he was awarded 1st Team All-American. Shortly after, Chris was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 3rd round of the 1992 MLB Draft. He continued to play in the MLB for 15 years and made an appearance as the starting short stop in the 1998 World Series with the San Diego Padres.

With a wealth of knowledge, Gomez is the perfect fit to lead the baseball program through their first year. "It is an honor to join the staff of theathletic department at Pacifica Christian High School," says Gomez. "As a Pacifica parent, I have seen firsthand the dedication and conviction of the Pacifica community. I look forward to the launch of a baseball program that is true to the Pacifica mission and one that Pacificans can be proud of. Let's play ball!"

A few athletes to be on the lookout for on the Triton squad are Jamie MacKay and Wyatt Hanion. Jamie MacKay is an upperclassman transfer who is a stud on the mound and at the plate. MacKay has been offered athletic scholarships to several Division 1 schools and is a current verbal committo Ole Miss for softball. Another player is freshman Wyatt Hanion. Hanion is an experienced baseball player on a solid travel-ball team and will bring a lot of value to the program.

The Triton Baseball Team will play their home games at Dean Harvey Field at Vanguard University and will compete in the Western Athletic Conference with opponents such as Sage Hill, St. Margarets, and Capistrano Valley Christian.Currently the team practices three days a week and is building team culture and camaraderie on and off the field to ensure a successful inaugural season.
