Spillman and Batley Awarded Player of the Year
Senior basketball player EJ Spillman and Freshman goalkeeper Kasper Batley were both awarded Player of the Year for their respective league for the Tritons!
Senior EJ Spillman was awarded the San Joaquin League Player of the Year after his outstanding senior campaign. This is Spillman's second time being awarded Player of the Year, the first Triton to do that in program history. During league play, EJ dabbled in every stat category, leading in most of them and being the consistent and steady force for the Tritons. Spillman averaged 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7 assists per game. Across six league games he scored 76 points, had 26 rebounds, and 42 assists. EJ also broke two program records during league play, including career assists and career points and led his team to their third San Joaquin League title in a row, fourth in program history as well as a CIF-SS Final.
"EJ did what it took to help lead us to our 3rd San Joaquin League championship in a row," said Head Coach Jeff Berokoff "His fingerprints were all over each game as not only was he extremely difficult for teams to guard, he was also the best passer in our league. I am very happy for EJ and I will miss being his coach "
Freshman goalkeeper Kasper Batley was awarded the Academy League Player of the Year and helped lead the Tritons to their first ever league title in program history. Batley, who played in all 10 league games for a total of 800 minutes, recorded 94 saves. Kasper only allowed four goals in league play and recorded six shutouts. According to MaxPreps, Kasper is ranked 12th in CIF for total saves and fourth in the Southern Section for total saves. When asked about Kasper, Head Coach Johnny Marmelstein said, "Kasper was a model of consistency throughout the season. So calm and cool under pressure, he did all of the things you could expect from far more experienced goalkeepers but he is just a freshman! Kasper was an imposing presence on the pitch and made so many spectacular saves that kept us in tight matches. We don't win the league championship without Kasper Batley."
Goalkeeper Coach, Jordan Martinez said,"Kasper's ability to learn quickly and be coachable gives him the opportunity to continue his goalkeeping career at any level he desires. His natural abilities are further along than many others his age, and Kasper will continue to get better through his outstanding work rate. He was a key factor to Pacifica's successful achievements this year, and Kasper will continue to be an important part of the program's future success!"
Congratulations to EJ and Kasper on their outstanding seasons!
