Pacifica Christian Athletics Announces Caleb Barker as Director of Tennis
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Pacifica Christian is excited to announce the hiring of Caleb Barker as the school's new Director of Tennis, leading both the boys and girls tennis programs.
Barker brings a strong combination of tennis knowledge, teaching experience, student mentorship, and faith-centered leadership to Pacifica. His background includes serving as a Varsity Tennis Assistant Coach at Reedley High School, where he helped lead drills, competitive match preparation, technical development, and in-match encouragement for student-athletes. He has also worked as a private tennis instructor, helping players develop fundamentals, refine technique, and grow into competitive-level athletes.
As Pacifica prepares to compete in the Pacifica Coast Conference next year, Barker's leadership will be an important part of building a tennis program that is prepared to compete at a high level. His ability to teach the game, develop players across different skill levels, and create intentional training environments gives Pacifica confidence that he can help grow a winning program built on discipline, consistency, and competitive excellence.
"Caleb brings the kind of character, maturity, and competitive mindset we want leading our tennis program," said Brandon Gonzalez, Director of Athletics and Student Life. "He understands that building a successful program requires more than talent. It requires player development, strong relationships, clear expectations, and a culture that teaches student-athletes how to compete with confidence and purpose. We are excited to have Caleb lead us as we enter the Pacifica Coast Conference next year."
Beyond the court, Barker's experience in education and student ministry makes him uniquely prepared to lead a high school athletic program with purpose and care. He currently serves as a music teacher for 6th–12th grade students at Kaser Arts in Garden Grove, where he develops curriculum, builds student confidence, and creates a positive learning environment. He also serves as a Student Ministry Resident at Grace Evangelical Free Church, where he teaches, leads, mentors, and helps students grow in their faith.
Barker's own experience as a student-athlete helped shape his understanding of the powerful role a coach can play in the life of a young person, describing tennis as a place where he found stability, growth, and godly mentorship. That experience now fuels his desire to invest deeply in Pacifica's tennis players both as athletes and as people.
As Director of Tennis, Barker will focus on building a competitive, well-balanced, and Christ-centered tennis program. His leadership will emphasize technical development, daily improvement, team culture, competitive preparation, and the formation of student-athletes who compete with discipline, humility, and confidence
Barker is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in New Testament from Talbot School of Theology and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies from Biola University. His commitment to faith, mentorship, and student development aligns closely with Pacifica's mission and athletic department values. Coach Barker is married to his wife, Amanda, and the two are expecting their first child this coming fall.
